On selfish monsters

This article reminded me why I consistently told Z that he had to be grateful to us, to be grateful that he had toys, that he had a home, that we could bring him for holidays and more. Everything had to be earned.

Nothing was going to fall from sky. We had to put in our best to reap the harvest.

Instant gratification and careless indulgences would create a poorly trodden path for the kids. They had to learn how to survive, they had to learn scarcity and they had to learn about gratitude.

To love a child was not to spoil them but to impart lifelong teaching to help them live a better future.
