Z’s 5th Birthday Party #DressedToRescueGothamCity #postdated

More than a month ago, we celebrated Z’s 5th birthday at home. I had thought that when we opted to celebrate at home, it would be on a smaller and more intimate scale (Read about Z’s past 4 birthday parties here). The more we worked on the theme ‘Batman’, the more enthused everyone got and this had been the amount of DIY work done too.

First of all, the amount of stress for doing the party at home was immense due to the weather. We had scheduled the party to be from 11am to 1pm but it clashed with his school’s Meet-the-Parents’ sessions. As such, we had to put it from 3-5pm. Imagine how much envy I had when I looked up at the clear skies in the morning, and the amount of panic I had every time I refreshed the NEA website. It actually predicted that there would be rain in our neighbouring zones except for the little patch over our sky till 4pm. Thereafter, I was too busy and you know what… it really poured at 430pm!

When I conceptualised the party, it was meant for the 5-year olds. It was deigned to be an outdoor party, with remote car games, treasure hunt and swimming. Thankfully I had contingency plans in the form of a Magic show and balloon sculpting.

We were also thankful that the kids and their parents were very good sports. Though the rain kept everyone confined to the tiny sheltered function space, the Magic show, the cake cutting, the photobooth and the goodie bags kept them occupied till it was time to go off. It was only then the thunderstorm tapered off and ended.

Z was in very good spirits for the entire party and not even the rain could get him down. He was so happy and truly, the joy and excitement on his face rendered every effort and expense worthwhile. All the little party guests seemed to enjoy the theme of the party and half of them dressed up in really cool superheroes’ outfits.

While it was tedious to put the party together and to stress over the weather, Z’s classmate’s mother told me to enjoy every kiddy party we got to organise because it would not be long before they found it uncool for us to plan parties for them. Before I knew it, he would be wanting to celebrate with his friends only. That was very true, so all the more I should blog to record about all his birthday parties so that I could tell Z about it when he grew up.

Most guests were on time and arrived at 3-ish. Z was running around with his friends and I could barely get his attention to take a few, simple photos. Thankfully I had engaged a photographer who tagged after the boy instead. Before I knew it, some kids jumped into the pool or was simply soaking in it. It took a while to regroup the kids, get them to play simple games and watch the Magic Show. Of course, the rain came at 430pm just as the Magic Show was underway. We sang Z a birthday song and I improvised the Treasure Hunt to a trivia quiz where the children had to solve the combination code to a luggage which contained the goodie bags. The biggest prize for them? The water gun!

Enough of the rambling, here were some pictures from my phone.
