About the Writer

The name “Honey Marquise” is coined because of my affinity with the letter H as it seems to represent everything happy and bore a deeper significance personally.  ‘Marquise’ offers a few meanings which I embrace too.  I am blessed with a sweet, doting husband and 2 cheerful children who never fail to make me smile.

I am a marketing professional by virtue of interest, work experience and education.  I hold a business computing degree from NUS and a MBA, specialized in Marketing & Strategy, from NTU.  Both disciplines have influenced the way I analyze and respond to my children, which tends to be systematic or business-oriented.

I blog as a hobby, on top of other interests such as reading, running, shopping, singing KTV, sussing out good bargains, planning F&E holidays, travelling, creating photobooks & spending time with my family.  Other hobbies such as enjoying wine, cycling and playing racquet games can only be resumed in the near future.

  1. Hi Honey Marquise,

Isabelle here (again), I have a personal question for you regarding your academic track and would like to email you but unfortunately cannot find your email address on your blog. Basically, I was from NUS Info Systems (Switched from e-commerce, did you take the ecommerce too?) and now I am in IT but don’t see much prospects for me to be in this industry. I was thinking of either switching to Accounting (i have done a Dip. in this) or marketing/strategy but would like to seek your opinion as well as learn more how to go about developing myself in that area too. Do you mind sharing? I am genuinely interested to find out also which MBA you took from NTU. I can’t say enough how much I like the way you are, thoughts, teaching, lifestyle etc. You can reply to me on email (hungryisabelle@gmail.com) if you don’t mind, and maybe this as private too. *Shy*

    • Hi Isabelle,

Thanks for dropping a note and I would be happy to respond to some of your questions here. This is the course(http://www.nanyangmba.ntu.edu.sg/programme/part-time-nanyang-mba/) which I took but I believe NTU has tweaked the program slightly and no longer offers marketing as a specialisation. I was already in the marketing communications field before I took on the MBA. The MBA helped me to gain a good perspective on the overall operations of a business, how each business function worked, and where marketing came in to support. Above that, we explored concepts, big pictures and mapped it to real life corporate strategies.

Before you consider a career switch, you should take your current number of years of experience into consideration. Restarting in a new field might mean taking paycut, and if your interest/passion is able to overcome this initial barrier. Based on your current situation, are you in a good position for a steep learning curve (family, kids etc) and will you plan to aggressively seek out suitable opportunities? Is it the current company, the work environment, the industry or your interest which cause you to feel that there is a lack of prospects? What kind of gratification are you looking for in your next job/career? Both accounting and marketing are vastly different fields.

You should really focus on what you feel you are good at (or will be good at), tap on that potential, build on the interest and that would shape the path.

You can message me via https://www.facebook.com/TheHoneyMarquise. Apologies that I am not comfortable with contacting via my personal email. 🙂
